JKG Photography was formed in December 2010 by London/Kent based female photographer, Jade Keshia Gordon, at the young age of 16. Now 21, she has a clear idea of where she would like JKG Photography to be. Jade has always had passion for photography. Starting with unpaid work, teaching herself majority of things, she was able to create a strong clientele early on. Starting with fashion and beauty work, Jade feels that this is where she is strongest. She has now started to work with hair companies to broaden her horizons. Jade is very hardworking and passionate, and determined. Jade quotes, "With Every Picture Is A Memory".
Where are you based?
London, United Kingdom.
Tell us about yourself.
I grew up in South East London, but later moved Orpington when I was 15. I've always had a passion for music and basketball, so I guess you could say those are my hobbies.
Did you study photography or a related course?
I started my business at the age of 17 and back then I didn't study photography. It wasn't until I went to university at the age of 20 that I did, so you could say that for three years I was entirely self-taught. But going to university has helped me as a photographer to learn new techniques that can be used in my future work.
Tell us about your work.
My photographic portfolio ranges from beauty to fashion, which is what I specialise in. At present I don't have a particular style of shooting; I am covering the board and experimenting with different styles on each shoot, until I find my niche. I’m currently in university and I'm learning different technical skills that will develop a better finish. Balancing both my business and university does have its downfalls, not currently being able to shoot has frequently as I would like. At present this isn't my full time profession but it certainly will be once I graduate.
What do you love about photography?
I love that I'm able to create a piece of work that can be viewed by hundreds of people. I also love being able to create a memory for my client, and remembering there's more to an image.
Which photographers inspire your practice?
Lara Jade, Danny Baldwin, Nick Knight and Anne Leibovitz.

Originally when I first thought of this shoot concept, I wanted it to be about everyone being different. Ethnicity, size and more. It was hard to find models that were willing to shoot with me, but I did in the end. The shoot was heavily based on the videography to the chart-topping track All About The Bass by Megan Trainor. I loved all the colours and clothing, using that as the basis for my primary mood board. I think my biggest challenge, later turning into an achievement, was pulling clothes. My assistant Dazhane and I decided to contact companies such as Missguided, Boohoo, ASOS and many more. After two weeks we heard back from Missguided and Boohoo, and they sent us clothes for the shoot which was really amazing. We were also given bags from the amazing company Jump From Paper. Luckily enough I have a studio that I was able to use Cre8 Studio, located in Hackney Wick. Would just like to say thank to Carnival Magazine for this chance to showcase my work. Also a huge thank you to my team because without you this shoot wouldn't have been such a success.
