Road Trip, Djeneba Aduayom.
Djeneba is an emerging award-winning photographer, based in Los Angeles. For her, beauty is something you feel. The ability to recognise something as ‘beautiful’ is a complex interplay between our senses and our environment. Even though Djeneba’s work straddles fashion, portraiture, and advertising, her personal work identifies that she is able to capture and infuse numerous subjects and moods all together. Having worked across four continents, she understands photography’s role is not to merely capture a moment in time. It’s a summation of the photographer, her vision, the subject, the client, a brief, and the connection between those ideas. Djeneba’s work focuses on discovering the extraordinary within the ordinary.
“I only started photography a few years ago. I am an artist at heart, a performer and I toured the world with some amazing artists in my life. I also studied interior design. Photography came up on my radar. From my previous backgrounds, I already had the love of images, fashion, design and art. It was love at first site and I dove into it with all my heart. I taught myself everything from scratch and from that very moment I was inspired to the point of seeing images everywhere all the time. Since when you begin photography, you have no means. You have no budget, no lights, minimal equipment. I started to create images with very little.”
“In the end it doesn’t matter what you don’t have. If you are a true creative, you will create something out of nothing. This is a challenge that thrills me and allows me to be creative. I am inspired by anything that catches my eye, architecture, design, art, music, images, movement, nature and much more. Everything is a source of inspiration in my world.”
“People cannot fathom that a photographer can shoot more than one thing. So I would say I shoot people - from fashion, to portraits and beyond. Unless the client needs something very specific, I tend to explore a few options to give a wide range of photographs to choose from. It is one of my skills to make anything work if I possibly can. There are no boundaries for me, I can shoot anything; an object, a person, a flower, a piece of garment, you name it. To me photography is like telling poetry. If you work in harmony with everyone, it creates a lovely little creative bubble. In my experience, the results are always good on this type of shoot!”
