Editorial / Holidays to Portofino
(L'Officiel Hellas June 2014)
We talk to internationally published fashion photographer Alberto Raviglione about his beautiful editorials Let’s Pop (for Harpers Bazaar Man China) and Holidays to Portofino (for L’Officiel Hellas). We speak about his desire to travel the globe, his current photographic inspirations and his transition from information technology to excelling in the creative industry.
Where are you based?
Paris, France. Milan, Italy.
Tell us about yourself.
I live in Paris and I live in Milan; sometimes in the middle. I grew up in Turin, a thriving cultural centre in northern Italy. My biggest interest is to travel around the world. I'm also a professional gamer, trying every MMORG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) ever published.
Did you study photography or a related course?
No, I actually studied Information Technology. I then worked as an assistant to various photographers in the beginning of my career transition.
Tell us about your work.
I'm predominantly a fashion photographer; I work mostly for magazines, commissioning editorials. I equally love both location and studio shooting.
What do you love about photography?
I love the possibility of working in an incredibly creative environment and travelling around the world in the process.
Which photographers inspire your practice?
There are a lot of photographers that have inspired me and my portfolio of work. In particular, I really love the work of Greg Kadel, Paolo Roversi and Michelangelo di Battista.
What editorials are featuring in ISSUE 03 of Carnival Magazine?
Holidays to Portofino (L'Officiel Hellas June 2014) and Let's Pop (Harper's Bazaar Man China)
Tell us about the featured editorials.
Both produced for summer issues, one man and one woman, but for countries with exceptionally contrasting requests. The Greeks (L’Officiel) wanted something Mediterranean, hot and typically Italian and we chose the luxury location of Portofino for this shoot. The Chinese (Harpers Bazaar Man) wanted a really coloured story with some graphic background. I found a gravel quarry near Milan that was absolutely perfect. We shot 14 frames in 14 different locations, an incredibly long tiring day.
Is there any additional information you wish for us to publish?
I'd like to thank all the people that are working with me at the moment. I’ll start by mentioning Lule Production – who have helped us from start to finish. Also, Chiara Cima, as MUA for the featured editorials, Rory Rice as Hair Stylist and of course Olympia de Molossi as Stylist.
