Sugar & Spice, Ailera Stone.
Aliera Stone is a photography student based in London, originally from Vilnius, Lithuania. Her photographic practice is vibrant and playful, capturing a youthful attitude within her predominantly portraiture based portfolio of published work.
“I began taking pictures at the age of 15. I was mostly taking conceptual portraits back then, but now I’m doing a lot more fashion pictures. I always liked to escape into other worlds through books, movies and music. A lot of my inspiration comes from music, literature and cinema. I found out that the best way to do that is by taking pictures. Photography is a way to capture moments and make them magical, bring the dreams into this world.”
“The story featured in Carnival Magazine is about remembering childhood. It’s about two friends who like to dress up, make believe, but who also have a rebellious side as it’s more fun to take dolls apart than to play with them. It was photographed in the city where I grew up, Vilnius, in Lithuania. I was inspired by 90’s style and nostalgia of simpler times. Photography is magic to me, because that’s how you can freeze magic and create other, better realities. My favourite thing is to photograph people, so I focus mainly on portraiture and fashion shoots. For most of my photo shoots I use Canon 5D Mark II, and occasionally my film cameras. Right now it’s Canon AE-1, Fujifilm Instax.”
